  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 2 green onions, minced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (or chickpea flour)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup grapeseed oil (or other neutral oil, for frying)
  • 1/2 cup Greek yogurt (or sour cream)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice (from 1/2 lemon)
  • 2 tbsp fresh dill, minced

Instructions

  1. Drain and rinse the canned chickpeas, then mash them coarsely in a large bowl.
  2. Add ground cumin, black pepper, sea salt, minced green onions, minced garlic, flour (or chickpea flour), and egg to the mashed chickpeas; mix well.
  3. Heat grapeseed oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat.
  4. Shape the mixture into patties (about 3 tablespoons each) and carefully place them into the hot oil without overcrowding the pan.
  5. Fry each patty for 3–4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy; transfer to a wire rack to drain excess oil.
  6. For the yogurt sauce, combine Greek yogurt (or sour cream), lemon juice, fresh dill, minced garlic, and sea salt in a bowl; mix until smooth.
  7. Serve warm with the yogurt sauce.
